----- Glasgow, KY., Feb 7 - Ed.
| Lodgen, aged fifty-six years, one of the most noted monnshiners in Kentucky, is dead at Horse Cave, Ky., at the home of a relative. For thirty-five years Logden has been mixed up in moonshining in Barren, Hart, and Metcalf coun- ties, and has often been in the Louisville jail. He was con- sidered the most crafty 'shiner who ever operated in Kentucky, and has spent much of his time behind the prison walls. He avoided conviction until five years ago, when he was caught and convicted. At that time he gave an elaborate interview tell- ing of his work as a 'shiner. He is supposed to have killed several men. He was tried in Glasgow for the murder of Wm. Kinser, but proved a clear case of self defense. This was in 1888. In his long career he often got the drop on the revenue officers, but always failed to shoot them and would advise them to be more careful when looking for stills in his part of the country. With his death the last of the famous "shiners" of this section has passed away. |
